The Department of Financial Services is seeking candidates to fill the position of Assistant Deputy Superintendent for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Analytics in the Research & Innovation Division.
The Assistant Deputy Superintendent for AI and Data Analytics will be an integral part of the Research and Innovation Division at DFS reporting directly to the Executive Deputy. This role combines AI and Data Analytics responsibilities. The role will be responsible for developing a comprehensive AI governance framework applicable to the Department and applicable to regulated entities. The role will work across Department Divisions to identify use cases for DFS AI initiatives and ensure the comply with the AI governance framework. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of AI innovation at DFS and play a role in setting its direction while ensuring adherence to data governance best practices. In addition, this role would be involved in initiatives to leverage enterprise data analytics for fact-based decision-making and business value. It is anticipated that the AI responsibilities will occupy the majority of the successful candidate’s time with the understanding that they will successfully balance those with the Data Analytics responsibilities. Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Analyzes opportunities for new or improved processes, solutions, practices, products, services, or strategies leveraging AI/ML technologies and capabilities, and develops plan for implementation;
• Proactively oversees implementation of data controls relevant for AI, such as data quality, cataloguing, privacy, security, etc.;
• Develops and contributes to AI-related guidance; incorporates AI-related policy considerations into existing data governance guidance/policy/process documentation;
• Contributes to overall AI Governance and related initiatives;
• Identifies and implements continuous improvement opportunities for data governance, by enabling/operationalizing AI use cases for data governance;
• Contributes to enterprise data governance program’s metrics and reporting (for AI-related metrics) and communication initiatives;
• Actively monitors AI risks (i.e., for input data and AI model output), develops risk monitoring framework and/or related KPIs;
• Leads and/or supports major project initiatives for AI/ML;
• Participates in and/or hosts Divisional collaboration forums focused on AI; contributes to data governance forum(s) as needed;
• Leads AI-related data training activities, including development of training and reference materials;
• Monitors federal and state AI-related developments, assesses impact on data governance and makes process/guidance/policy recommendations to DFS Data Governance Unit Lead;
• Serves as the key liaison with business stakeholders for data and analytics initiatives; develops and presents business cases, provides regular updates and insights to senior leadership;
• Collaborates with cross-functional teams, Business Unit(s), IT professionals, and executives, to understand business requirements and translates them into analytics solutions. Fosters strong relationships with key stakeholders and acts as a trusted advisor in analytics-related matters;
• Manages a portfolio of data and analytics projects, ensures effective prioritization and resource allocation to achieve business objectives;
• Supervises DFS and/or contract staff as directed;
• Other duties as assigned.

• Bachelors degree and at least 7 years’ experience in traditional finance, FinTech, or consulting related to innovation topics
• Direct experience on AI implementation and/or policy development

Salary: $123,793 - $156,224 (salary commensurate with experience)
Positions located within the New York City metropolitan area, as well as Suffolk, Nassau, Rockland, and Westchester Counties, are also eligible to receive an additional $4,000 annual downstate adjustment.
Appointment Status: This is an appointment to a position in the exempt jurisdictional class.
Appointment to this position is pending Governor Appointment’s Office and Division of Budget approval.
