Duties Description The State University of New York (SUNY) System Administration, located in Albany, New York, currently has two openings for a Maintenance Assistant - SG09 in Facilities.
Responsibilities: Include, but are not limited to:
- Performs semiskilled carpentry activities including repairing doors, windows, window sashes, storm windows, stairs, railings, furniture, locks, and door hardware operating shop machinery to make and assemble bookcases, shelves, tables, trenches, signs, and modular furniture erecting and moving partitions building forms for concrete work and, under supervision, assisting in erecting and renovating buildings and structures.
- Assists in repairing and maintaining locks by making keys, changing lock combinations, opening locks when keys are not available, installing locks, and cleaning and repairing locks.
- Assists in painting and decorating work by performing interior and exterior painting not requiring fine finish or decorative treatment, staining and finishing wood and furniture, painting equipment, and spray-painting surfaces and equipment.
- Perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance, repair, installation, and construction tasks in one or more of the trades including, carpentry, painting, minor electrical, masonry/tilework, and flooring.
- Perform snow and ice control as needed.
Minimum Qualifications Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trades person; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the NYS CSEA Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
Additional Requirements:
- Working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in trade or trades to which assigned.
- Ability to work under the direction of a field supervisor and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Working knowledge of safety standards and procedures.
- Working knowledge of applicable codes and regulations for the trade or trades to which assigned.
- Ability to read plans, specifications, manuals, and blueprints.
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- The ability to climb ladders and work at heights on scaffolds and platforms, and in confined spaces.
- Demonstrate the ability to adhere to OSHA safety standards.
Additional Comments Note: Non-Competitive: Candidates should be aware that a preferred list, transfer list, placement roster and/or reemployment roster of laid off State employees may be certified against this vacancy by the Department of Civil Service.
